Week 5 Reflection: Sejahtera—Sustainability With a Soul 🧠❤️🌱

Date: 1 April 2025
Course: SCSH 1201 – Sustainable Development: Issues, Principles and Practices (Section 4)

The current lesson session expanded our understanding of Sejahtera as it continues to run throughout our discussions. We delved into Sejahtera this time not only as an additional concept but as the core localised philosophy which formed the essence of sustainable development and integrated both Malaysian cultural norms and spiritual and practical dimensions. πŸ‡²πŸ‡ΎπŸŒ

And honestly? Everything learned until now has become more connected to human experiences. More real.

Key Lessons and Takeaways πŸ“

1. What Is Sejahtera?

Sejahtera extends beyond traditional interpretations of “peace” and “well-being” since it includes holistic aspects of spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and social dimensions. Every dimension of self—spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, as well as social—is captured when we look at Sejahtera as a whole. Living in complete harmony exists between yourself and others while involving nature and primarily requires a relationship with Allah 🀲.

Many definitions establish these points about the meaning of sejahtera:

The state embraces safety with harmony and prosperity while rejecting all forms of chaos and its associated hardships.

People who follow this model achieve both secular success and religious completeness.

Sejahtera serves as a base to construct ethical, compassionate and sustainable communities.

For me, the concept of genuine sejahtera achieved its deepest level through understanding its connection to heart quality and our Creator-based relationship. According to Professor Kamal Hassan’s vision, Sejahtera society needs moral leadership together with soul-based education and serious dedication to al-falaah (ultimate success), which extends beyond this world into the next life. πŸ•ŒπŸŒΊ

2. Localising Sustainability

Sustainable development should be localised, which emerged as the most significant idea to me. That means:

Global sustainability objectives require adjustments to synchronise with regional values, together with traditional customs and particular requirements.

Active community involvement at the ground level surpasses the implementation of regulatory approaches from administrators.

Change can be driven by spiritual values, which include tawheed, amanah, ihsan, and taqwa.

This method appeared achievable through its realistic aspects, along with preserving its true authenticity. Green planet development requires the combination of heart-warming actions and value transformations to be successful.

Personal Reflections ✍️

Sejahtera functions as a symbol that shows sustainable development extends beyond cultural policies and carbon emission targets, and green technological advancement. It’s about people. It’s about character. The objective is to establish a world which shows both external development and inner tranquillity.

My reflection from this week was this: Does innovation maintain any value when there is no integrity in action? Does it matter to achieve sustainability when we discard our spiritual essence to pursue it?

Sejahtera teaches us to maintain balance in our daily living activities of learning and leadership, along with living.

The cultivation of akhlaq represents our ethical behaviour toward nature alongside people.

One must practice self-control when it comes to both desires and consumption levels.

We must keep hope alive that personal transformation first creates beneficial change within ourselves.
